Japanese dolls: girls day

A long time ago, during the Edo Era, (1603-1876) Special dolls were used to ward off evil spirits and demons.

It was believed that they worked as a good luck charm, and were special and beautiful. Eventually, it came down to tradition, and culture to set up a "Hina dan set" for girls' day. They believe that you set them up, and take them down the day after March 3d (girls day) and if you don't take them immediately down on march4, your daughter will never marry. Not too much of a loss, but in Japan, it is imperative your daughter makes a good match. I mean, girls have more to do in this life than get married and have sons. The dolls are meant to make your daughter gentle, beautiful, and calm. Back in the day, that was the ideal daughter, and nowadays, girls can and have done waaaaaaaaay more.

This is the "Hina dan" setup.
This is the average size, but the biggest one has 31 levels, and is 7 meters high!!
It is located in Japan, and is arguably the largest Hina dan doll set.
