Golden Barrel by Hamza

Image
Today I researched prickly pear and golden barrel cacti. Golden Barrel Cactus has yellow flowers that dry up for part of the year.  You can tear one of the dry flowers off and you will find an old (fermented) fruit at the bottom.  You can tear this fruit apart and find seeds.  You can plant more Golden Barrel Cacti with these seeds. Prickly Pear Cactus is a plant that can sometimes grow really tall.  The Prickly Pear is entirely edible.  The fruit is very healthy.  It can help with diabetes and hangovers. Next week: My goal for next week is to make a model of these two cacti out of LEGOs.

Thomas's light switch

Lovely Stiff Fabrics

Image
By Emi   Some stiff fabrics are used as the overlay of a gown. Good for draping, prone to water staining, and lovely for showing off the figure.   Taffeta       Taffeta is a stiff fabric that can be made of polyester or silk. Its unique stiffness and sheen  is created by weaving red thread (picture as example) and stiff metallic thread. Horse Hair  Unlike Taffeta, Horse hair fabric is used to stiffen skirts and trains. It's often used in crinolines,  fanning out when pleated and stacked. The crinoline you are most familiar with is probably the cage crinoline.    See ya'll next time! You can see the chemise that is going with my ball gown, and all of the lace I am hand stitching on! 1890's sewing techniques and everything...

Photoshop Project

Image
By, Daniel:  This week I've completed my Sci-Fi/Video Game image, which is a cross between a first-person shooter, Star Wars, an evil robot, and an escape game. Although you cannot actually play the game itself you can look at what it would be if it were an actual playable game. I completed all of the goals I've made for myself over the weeks, and I understand (most) the tools in Photoshop and how to use them in a photo, I hope you like what I've created in Photoshop.  Over time I noticed that I always had one problem when it came to inserting images from the web and making sure they fit into the image. For example, in the Luke image that is in there, I always struggled cutting out the image from the white background without leaving a white outline on my image, after a while, I figured out that I could zoom in to the image until I see pixel by pixel and delete the pixels I didn't want. Thus, creating the image, you now see.  Despite my struggles with the various tools...

A structure of a flower by Hamza

Image
I was working on a bougainvillea garden and I couldn't find a Lego that was similar to the color and shape of bougainvillea. There was a black Lego piece that sort of like a long ribbon that I used as bougainvillea. And I put different kinds of Lego pieces as different kinds of plants. What was hard was that the black ribbon wasn't flexible. It kept snapping because it is made out of little pieces that can connect and they kept snapping into different pieces. Plans for the next two weeks: Next week: Research about cacti. Two weeks: Make a model of a cacti garden.

Programming the EV3 by Salma & Amena

Today we programed EVA (EV3) to move forward. After watching a few tutorials, hours of experimenting, and EVA almost falling off the table, we finally figured it out. We first tried using the "Large motor" block, but it didn't work, so we tried a different block called the "Move Tank" block ,which allowed us to adjust both wheels to the speed we wanted. Here is the video of EVA moving forward: Our goal for next week is to program it to move forward the turn.
